Confusion in the Aftermath of the Fort Hood Shootings

Understandably, in recent days the mass shooting at Fort Hood in Killeen, Texas has dominated the discussion on the cable news channels, internet blogs, and newspapers.  In case you are unaware of the event, United States Army Major Nidal Malik Hasan entered the Soldier Readiness Center at Fort Hood and opened fire on his fellow soldiers.  When the shooting stopped, Hasan had killed thirteen and wounded 43 others.

Fort Hood ShootingsInitially, media and Army brass, wringing their hands in the manner so typical of a people paralyzed by political correctness, offered any number of explanations for Hasan’s actions—fatigue, fear of being sent to Afghanistan, alienation, etc.   Curiously, very little of the discussion focused on the obvious fact that Hasan is a Muslim with known anti-American sentiments.  Also overlooked is the fact that Hasan exclaimed “Allahu Akbar!” (Arabic for “God is Great”) before he started shooting.  (Indeed, as I write, CNN is giving an extensive report on Hasan’s physical condition.)

Since 9-11, the U.S. Department of Defense has actively recruited Muslims to serve in the United States Armed Forces.  The folly of this policy becomes readily apparent in the aftermath of Fort Hood.  But it should have been apparent before the tragedy occurred.  Consider this: in the 98 months since 9-11, an average of one Islamic-inspired terrorist plot has been uncovered every four months. (See "Same Old, Same Old at Fort Hood")  Every four months!  This is more than coincidence; it is a pattern.  More than that, it is a pattern consistent with much of what Islamic clerics have been advocating for years.

Political correctness has already crippled Western Europe.  It now threatens to engulf North America as well.  Were we to repent of our folly and embrace the Truth of the Gospel, the ship might yet be righted.
