| Fixed Point at the PCA General Assembly |
|
I am currently at the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in America in Orlando, Florida. A few of our staff have come here to discuss Fixed Point Foundation, what we do, and how we do it. This is one of those major gatherings of the leaders of a Christian denomination. It is the first time that we have attended such a conference, but it has been a good experience for our staff and interns. Fixed Point Foundation is a unique initiative and stands out against other ministries as innovative, daring, and, as one man characterized us, “maverick.” (A compliment was intended.) Rather than merely preaching to the choir, we have engaged some of the world’s great antagonists of the Christian faith. The result has been a rich experience upon which we can draw in educating others on the issues and how to discuss them with those outside of Christianity. We think that our conferences, lectures, and web resources are among the best, so it is with full conviction and enthusiasm that we talk to the people here about our work. It has also been encouraging to meet so many fine men and women who are doing great things for the glory of God. From early morning to late at night we have had any number of conversations with interesting people. As one would expect at a conference of this size (about 1,300 attendees), we have encountered a few who consider issues such as relativism, radical Islam, aggressive secularism, unbridled materialism, and the debate over man’s origin—all issues that we have addressed—as unimportant. Conversations with these people leave me open-mouthed. |
